US vs UK Crochet Terms: The Cheat Sheet

A UK double crochet is a US single crochet. Here is the full table so your project doesn't grow twice as tall.

Why it matters

The US and UK use the same words for different stitches. Read a UK pattern with US stitches and everything comes out taller and looser.

US UK
single crochet (sc) double crochet (dc)
half double (hdc) half treble (htr)
double crochet (dc) treble (tr)
treble (tr) double treble (dtr)

Quick test

If the pattern mentions single crochet, it's US. UK patterns don't have a single crochet.

All our English patterns use US terms, and every pattern also comes in French, Spanish and German with local terms.
